Catalyst kidz serves children birth through age 18. We specialize in sensory processing, self-regulation, fine motor, visual motor, and overall coordination.
Our goal is to help your child gain confidence in their abilities by building strong connections, giving them the skills to persevere through challenges, and empowering them to be the best they can be!
At Catalyst Kidz we believe in treating the WHOLE child. Take a look at some common areas we address to help your children reach their goals.
Sensory processing skills help your body take in the world around you. A child may have difficulty with sensory processing skills if they avoid certain textures, tastes, sounds, or busy environments, are constantly moving, jumping and crashing or spinning around frequently, putting things in their mouth, or have strong aversions to self care skills (toothbrushing, nail care, hair care, bathing).
Self-regulation is a complex skill that evolves over time.
external regulation -> co-regulation -> self-regulation
A child may have difficulty with regulation skills if they have poor impulse control, are unable to manage their emotions, have difficulty paying attention, struggle with transitions, or have behavioral challenges.
Fine motor skills use the small muscles of our hands to complete tasks. Your child may have difficulty with fine motor skills if they have trouble with or avoid the following tasks: holding a pencil, writing/drawing, typing, cutting with scissors, fastening buttons or zippers, tying shoes, using utensils to eat, opening packages, building with legos or other small toys.
Visual motor skills include eye-hand coordination, visual scanning, visual closure, visual discrimination, spatial awareness, figure ground, and visual memory. Your child may have difficulty with visual motor skills if they have difficulty reading, catching a ball, finding things in a busy environment, frequent letter reversals, or trouble sorting and matching.
So many things contribute to a child's overall coordination and confidence in their abilities! Retained primitive reflexes, bilateral coordination, core strength, flexibility, balance, and the skills listed above. Your child may have difficulty with coordination if they appear clumsy, can't keep up with peers, struggle to pedal a bike, have poor awareness of where their body is in space, or overall lack confidence in their abilities.
Hi, I'm Shay! I am a Mom to two wild boys and a pediatric OT. I have almost 9 years of pediatric experience in a variety of settings. I started Catalyst Kidz in 2018 when I was pregnant with my first son, I was hoping to do in home private practice OT in my area, but the timing did not work out.
After having our son, I went back to work full time and realized that while I like being a pediatric OT, I LOVE being a mom. I started thinking of ways I could spend more time at home and less time at work, while still helping out financially. I thought I may have found the answer. After the birth of our second son, I left the outpatient clinic world and started working as a school OT. While this does have a much better schedule and improved work-life balance, I still find myself feeling sad and guilty about being away from my boys.
I decided to restart Catalyst Kidz, only this time I was going to go about it a little differently. Instead of continuing to trade my time for money, I am creating valuable digital products and services that make a difference in the lives of families like mine!
WELCOME!! I'm so glad you're here!
